A Sacred Letter Of Forgiveness
I stand before you today not in anger, but in the absolute fullness of my truth, choosing to release the weight of the silence that has for too long obscured my vision and hindered my progress. As a survivor of sexual assault, carrying the heavy, unspoken scar of the day you failed to protect me has only served to anchor me to a past that no longer owns me. To heal deeply, I must speak openly, honouring the profound wisdom that has been forged through my suffering. I refuse to let the pain of what happened define the trajectory of my future any longer.
I explicitly extend my forgiveness to the individual officers who turned away from my vulnerability and to the leadership whose systemic oversight allowed my plea for help to go unanswered. I recognize that you are human, operating within flawed frameworks, and I choose to untether my soul from the resentment of your inaction. My forgiveness is not an absolution of your duty, nor is it an erasure of the harm done, as it is the deliberate reclamation of my own peace and autonomy.
I forgive every one of you who treated my worst nightmare as nothing more than an ordinary day at the office, passing papers and checking boxes while a soul fractured in front of you. While your indifference left a devastating void in my moment of greatest need, I realize that holding onto bitterness only punishes me for your lack of empathy. I let go of the expectation that you will ever fully grasp the depth of what was lost, freeing myself from the agonizing wait for an apology that may never come.
The unique and devastating trauma of a survivor demands a depth of healing, a spiritual awakening, and an institutional reckoning that standard protocols simply cannot accommodate. When you walked away or looked past me, you demonstrated a profound disconnect from the sacred responsibility of your badge to protect the vulnerable. By choosing forgiveness, I am rising above that failure, acknowledging that while you were unequipped or unwilling to meet me in the darkness, I am fully capable of walking into the light on my own terms.
Though I have been deeply wounded by specific individuals within the system, I hold the greatest respect for the noble calling of law enforcement as a whole and the vital role it plays in our global community. My grievance is not with the shield itself, but with the failure to uphold the sacred trust it represents for those crying out for justice. In forgiving those who stumbled in their duty, I honour the true spirit of justice, one that heals the broken rather than discarding them, and one that strives to be better tomorrow than it was yesterday.
My heart is filled with immense gratitude for the community leaders who refused to let me stand alone, wrapping me in solidarity when the official doors were shut in my face. I am profoundly thankful to those within the policing realm who supported me, advocated for me, took the time to explain complex policies, and shared transparent, honest insights about the severe gaps in current survivor reform. These individuals looked at my pain not as a burden or a liability, but as a human reality that required dignity, active listening, and urgent systemic evolution.
Let it be known with absolute clarity that my forgiveness does not signal a retreat, I will forever remain a loyal unwavering advocate for survivors of sexual assault. The insights I have gained from this painful journey have equipped me with a powerful voice to challenge the status quo and demand meaningful peaceful resolutions. My experience has transformed from a source of silent shame into a sacred blueprint for change, ensuring that those fellow survivors who come after me are met with compassion rather than indifference.
Today, I draw a sacred line in the sand, choosing to look away from those who walked out on me and turning my full attention to those who stayed and fought by my side. I pour my energy, my love, and my future into the community that held me together when the system tore me down. I choose to invest my life in the healers, the allies, the advocates, and the reform minded leaders who recognize that a survivor’s voice is an essential catalyst for a safer world.
To the leaders and officers who left me to navigate the wreckage alone, I say one final time, I forgive you, but I leave you behind in the past where your inaction resides. I will not look back to see if you finally understand, nor will I waste another moment wishing you had acted differently. You no longer hold any power over my story, my emotional wellbeing, or the advocacy work I am divinely called to do from this moment forward.
I stand tall in the present, completely surrounded and supported by the beautiful, resilient community that remained when the dust settled. Together, we are turning grief into power, scars into armour, and institutional failure into a relentless movement for survivor justice. I step forward into my destiny, fully healed by my own grace, anchored by those who love me, and guided by the unshakeable truth of my own survival.
